We tested the irradiance and wavelength accuracy of 10 popular LED face masks. The variance between marketing claims and physical reality is staggering.
Most clinical trials demonstrating collagen synthesis via photobiomodulation (PBM) utilize clinical panels delivering 40-50 mW/cm². Consumer brands frequently cite these exact studies while selling devices that output a fraction of that power.

Wavelength Accuracy
Peak wavelength is critical. The optical window for fibroblast stimulation is tight. 633nm is the gold standard for Red, and 830nm for Near-Infrared (NIR). We found two flexible masks (Brands B and C) peaking at 650nm—a cheaper diode variant that is slightly less optimal for cytochrome c oxidase absorption.
